PECHA KUCHA NIGHTS
I run regular Pecha Kucha Nights at SVA in Stroud. Usually on a Tuesday, roughly every 2 months.
8 artists show and tell 20 images of their art practice for 20 seconds per image. A brilliant format for artists to present a slice of their work in an informal setting with dynamism, community, succinctness and a drink..
Pecha Kucha is a unique presentation style. Artists show 20 images of their work, each image is shown for only 20 seconds and automatically moves to the next slide. The total presentation time is 6 minutes 40 seconds per artist..
For the artist it’s a fantastic format for consolidating and presenting an aspect of their practice with optimum images and a clear message. For the audience Pecha Kucha is an incredibly engaging way to hear several artists talk about their diverse practices - with incredibly varied approaches - something for everyone and a bit like a jam session, elevator pitch or speed date. Stroud people always turn out and we had jam-packed audiences on September 3rd and 29th October!
The next PKN will be early Jan 2025 (tbc) I give full tech and moral support where needed so sign up if you fancy a go. Artists of any persuasion and age. Email me via the contact form.

my body in my hands
In May 2023 ceramicist Sam Lucas and I curated an exhibition with artists from several countries (UK, USA, Australia, Mexico, Austria, Greece and Cyprus) at Stroud Valleys Artspace (SVA). The works were submitted via Sam’s instagram call out @theweightofbeing for work in any medium about how it feels (not necessarily how it looks) to be in your body, and to photograph the work in hand. It forms part of Sam’s PhD research project and produced a conceptually broad and exciting response with over 100 artists participating in the exhibition at SVA Stroud and over 300 in the online gallery. Materially wide open, the works range from ceramics, found objects, paper, natural materials and human matter to short videos.
This year Sam and I produced a publication of 99 of the participating artists - a labour of love and a revisiting of varied and deeply felt themes of emotional and visceral bodily knowledge and understanding. A limited number of books are availale to buy via my email nick@nicolagrellier.co.uk £15 + P&P.
